Emergency Management

In accordance with F.S. Chapter 252 Section 365, the Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD) is to have a comprehensive and effective Emergency Management Program to ensure continuity of essential APD functions under all circumstances. APD collaborates with the State Division of Emergency Management and other government, non-government, and faith-based partners to plan for and carry out emergency response and recovery activities in support of persons with disabilities and their families.

APD provides clients, Waiver Support Coordinators (WSC), partners, providers, and staff with information to help meet their needs before, during, and after an emergency. The resource links listed below contain information to assist individuals with planning for and recovering from disasters or emergencies occurring in Florida.

When emergencies and disasters occur, APD provides timely and necessary information about the event and the resources available. Working with partners, our goal is to ensure individuals with disabilities are safe and can recover.

Emergency Management consists of four phases that are part of a continuous cycle that aims to reduce the impact of disasters and ensure effective recovery. The graphic below illustrates these four phases.
