Preparing for Legislative Session

The Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD) is gearing up for the 2019 legislative session, which begins on March 5. APD has been asked to present at several committee meetings. I most recently spoke to the Senate Children, Families, and Elder Affairs Committee on January 22 about our agency priorities.

Family Care Council Florida Update


Leadership and representatives from the local Family Care Councils (FCCs) gathered together for their bi-monthly meeting in Orlando on January 18-19. The meeting featured presentations from the Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD).


2019 Connecting the Dots Conference


The Area 4 Family Care Council will be hosting its 5th annual Connecting the Dots conference on April 10 at the Schultz Center in Jacksonville.


Family Care Council Learns About the My Money Program


The Area 8 Family Care Council partnered with the Department of Financial Services (DFS) to present the My Money program to families in Ft. Myers.

Cleaning Up at College


Mark Poole wanted to be more independent. Poole worked for 20 years on the concrete crew of Pollak Industries of Pensacola ensuring that everything went right during a concrete pour. His conscientiousness was valued by his team.


Around the State


Santa’s Workshop at Tacachale


Preparation for the holidays started early at Tacachale as 70 residents and 44 staff journeyed to our own “North Pole” to construct original decorations at a center-wide Christmas Arts & Crafts event held in November.

Off to a Great Start


APD’s Southern Region held its first 2019 meeting for group home providers on last month. The meeting was very well attended.

Flagler County Fun


Last month, Flagler County’s Fun Coast Down Syndrome Association (FCDSA) held a dinner fundraiser for their Camp I Can Enrichment Center located at Palm Coast Praise Church in Bunnell.
